PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

2008-Present:  Associate Artistic Director, Opera Camerata of Washington, DC
Associate Artistic Director for an opera company that specializes in belcanto opera and opera rarities.  Duties include:  booking talent (vocalists and instrumentalists), developing concert programs, instrumental arrangements and rehearsal preparation.  Singers are generally from the Domingo-Caffritz program, the Metropolitan Opera, and regional singers of professional stature.

1998-present:  Coordinator of Keyboard Studies, Shepherd University.  Associate Professor, 2004-present; Assistant Professor 1999-2004; Visiting Professor, 1998-1999.

Coordinator of Keyboard Studies for a music program of approximately130 music majors.  Duties include: teaching applied piano, piano literature, piano pedagogy, class piano, piano ensemble, coordination of adjunct faculty, supervising non-major instruction, developing jury levels, overseeing maintenance of instruments, development of a piano loan program and administering the piano proficiency exam for music education majors. Other responsibilities include advising students, supervising all facets of accompanying (including collaborative efforts with other music faculty), fundraising, accreditation and assessment reports. To aid in the development of special events sponsored by the piano division, I have been awarded grants to fund concerts and workshops.

Fall 2006:  Interim Chair, Music Department, Shepherd Univeristy.

Responsible for day-to-day operations of the music department during the regular chair’s sabbatical.

2000-2003:  Artistic Director of “Music at the Festival,” part of The Contemporary American Theater Festival, Shepherd University

Worked with the managing and producing director of the Theater Festival to develop a three-year plan for including contemporary music at CATF.  Duties included writing grants, research for the writing of program notes, design of publicity and program, presenting proposals to the board of directors, developing a long-range plan for concerts and commissioning, as well as engaging artists.

1998-2003: Artistic Director, Reynolds Hall Recital Series.

Artistic director for the free concert series at Shepherd University.  Responsible for booking artists, publicity and facility management.  Other duties included developing budgets and grant writing endeavors.

1995-1998 Adjunct Faculty, Shepherd College

Instructor of applied piano and organ at a Liberal Arts College in West Virginia. Teaching experience encompassed both music and non-music majors, as well as non- traditional students. Other areas of instruction included: piano ensemble, vocal literature class and piano repertoire performance class. Duties also included vocal coaching, performance and accompaniment for the concert choir and Masterworks Chorale, and conducting both of these choral groups in rehearsal and concert.

1997-1999: General Manager, Georgetown Symphony Orchestra

General Manager, Librarian and Personnel Director for a community orchestra with a $50,000 annual budget.  Responsible for day-to-day operations, reporting to the board, developing and maintaining budgets and mailing lists, as well as grant writing. Experience also included publicity for each performance, which consisted of designing flyers, writing press releases and radio scripts, newspaper ads, program notes, and ticket giveaways. As personnel director, I was responsible for hiring musicians, setting up auditions, and recruitment of new members.

1990-1994: Music Director/Organist, Our Savior Lutheran Church
Head of music program for an 800-member church.  Expanded the music program to include 4 vocal choirs, handbell choirs, brass ensemble, and chamber orchestra. Developed and initiated a successful community concert series. Duties included: worship planning, reporting to the senior pastor and several boards, playing for all services, composing, fundraising ($100,000 campaign), and conducting choirs with orchestral accompaniment in concert

1990-1998: Piano Instructor, St. Mark's Music Studio

Instructor for a community-based music school in Washington, DC.  Students ranged in age from five to adult, and from beginners to early advanced. Performed extensive work with the board and director of the studio in developing business policies and publicity for the music program, as well as extensively recruiting more teachers and students for the school. Students participated in recitals and programs at the church and in the community. Administrative duties included writing the studio newsletter, coordinating recital programs, collecting tuition payments and overseeing maintenance of instruments.

INTERNSHIPS, GRANTS AND AWARDS
2007-Sabbatical leave awarded for the Fall 2007 semester by the Professional Development Committee at Shepherd University.

2006-West Virginia Music Teacher of the Year.

2004-Grant from the Dean of Student Learning ($1,000) to study the effect of increased contact hours in the class piano sequence.

2003-Professional Development release-time award ($2,000) for Fall of 2003, for continued work on forthcoming publications.

2002-Alumni Association Grant in the amount of $500 from the Professional Development Committee for the completion of a manuscript for publication.

2002-Music Technology Grant ($15,000) from the Patricia K.  and Lyell B.  Clay Foundation. Grant money used to purchase Yamaha Clavinova Piano lab for the music department of Shepherd University.

2001-Performance grant ($1,000) from the Arts & Humanities Alliance (AHA!) of Jefferson County for the Reynolds Hall Recital Series.

2000-Music Technology Grant ($113, 398) from the Patricia And Lyell Clay Foundation. Grant money was used to purchase Yamaha Disklavier pianos for the music department of Shepherd University.

2000-Jury prize for the Best Performance of a set of Baroque works at the

2000 France Piano Internationale Piano Festival and Competition.

2000-Grant in the amount of $2,500 from the Professional Development committee at Shepherd College for study at the France Internationale Piano Festival in Paris, France.
